NOT SCIENCE? AND YOUR POINT IS?

My four kids, ranging from 5 to 11 years of age, were lukewarm on a trip to the MOS until I told them that there was a Harry Potter exhibit. They were so happy that they spontaneously combusted and we didn't end up getting to go.

Not science?

No, it's not science. Were people upset with the museum's Lord of the Rings exhibit? I don't think so. Considering this museum hasn't changed much in 20 years I think most people are thrilled that Harry Potter is bringing people into the museum.

Why is this at a science museum?

Come on, I know that Harry Potter is a phenomenon (I am a huge fan), but there is no way this is anything more than selling out. It is a nice exhibit, but there was near zero science content. Save your time and wait until the exhibit has moved on, and then come see the museum for science, not fantasy.

Follow-up: If an exhibit like this is what it takes to get a child to set foot in a science museum, this is a bad sign for our future. As the US becomes increasingly less competitive in science and technology, all that will be left is fluff like this. Other countries will eat our lunch.
