Can you do a 360-degree, flying-forward somersault three stories in the air? Can you lift a large telephone pole and twirl it above your head (while acrobats balance on top of the pole)? If no, join the club; if yes, you're on the payroll of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Fully Charge. - June Wulff, Globe Staff

In the Ringling Bros. circus, elephants are beaten, hit, poked, prodded, and jabbed with sharp hooks, sometimes until bloody. Tigers are viciously struck with sticks so that they'll perform difficult and confusing tricks. Going to the circus is NO way to teach your kids about compassion for animals! Please skip this event. http://www.ringlingbeatsanimals.com

Once you learn about the abusive and inhumane lives the exotic circus animals are forced to live to entertain the public, the circus isn’t fun anymore. At least if you love animals.
Deborah Nelson is a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter as well as the director of the Carnegie Seminar of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, did a yearlong investigation on Ringling Bros Circus and wrote this story, “The Cruelest Show on Earth.”
