The 39th annual Christmas Revels joyfully celebrates the holiday season and the rich and varied cultures of North America. With extraordinary music, singing and dance, this year's holiday celebration finds its inspiration in the mountains of Appalachia as well as powerful African American traditions, the singular beauty of the Shaker tradition, and the ancient traditions of the First American Nation. This year's family solstice celebration includes high spirited clogging and fiddling, rousing gospel and spiritual music and dance plus all the Revels touchstones audiences have grown to love including familiar carols and rounds, a seriously funny mummers play and audience participation. With a cast of more than 80 performers the 2009 Christmas Revels, directed by Patrick Swanson with music direction by George Emlen, is a holiday present just waiting to be opened.
