The circus industry cannot be trusted to tell the truth as they have all willfully violated laws again and again. By any definition Ringling Bros Circus are habitual offenders of the Animal Welfare Act. The USDA has documented these violations and fines for decades. You can see a pattern of neglect and abuse of the wild animal performers year after year. But because no one from the circus has ever gone to jail for mistreating these wild animals, they know the drill, Ringling recently paid a fine of $270,000 for 24 violations of the AWA. They write it off as the “cost of doing business”.
